Facilitating Acceptance and Choice Technique
What is FACT?
After years of working with various Energy Psychology techniques, I developed FACT or Facilitating Acceptance and Choice Technique. FACT is a mind-body integration technique that combines what I feel to be the best aspects and procedures from other existing energy balancing protocols as well as additional techniques to help bring peace to the mind, body and spirit. By taking the best of each protocol, a deeper level of wholeness and simplicity is achieved.
By holding some specific energy point points and repeating some choosing statements, one's mind, body and emotions become energetically cleared and integrated. This process allows for the release of stuck energy and patterns and gives your body new information so that all parts of yourself may heal and move forward with this information.
What can FACT do?
With FACT, you can heal traumatic stress of all kinds and from many sources. It works especially well with healing emotional issues, even old hurts you may have been carrying around for years! You can heal your fears and phobias and heal emotional aspects of illness. Often, clearing the emotional foundation of illness leads to healing on all levels. You may release traumas from the past, allowing you to finally move forward in your life. It can help you free yourself of all the obstacles you encounter in leading the life you truly want. Negative thought patterns and long held, limiting beliefs are resolved and you can move into personal empowerment. And, with FACT, you can do this without having to relive traumatic events from the past. You simply put your attention on the event or the statement about the event and let your mind process it. There is no need or benefit from getting deeply into the emotional charge of the experience.
Who can benefit from FACT?
Adults, pregnant women, children and animals can benefit.
How long does it take to clear an issue or event?
Most events or issues clear within a few sessions. As other aspects of issues surface, more sessions may be necessary. Helping to speed healing is that YOU are capable of helping clear things that surface as well. Once you learn this technique, you can easily do it on your own! Many long-standing issues can be cleared by learning this technique and then following through at home with daily sessions. Having further sessions with a practitioner are often not necessary unless you would like some help, a different perspective or just some emotional support.
It is strongly recommended that you clear only one major issue a day. Clearing issues causes energetic shifts and this allows for the rest of your body to 'catch up' and process the changes gently and effectively.
How long does a session last and what happens?
A session usually lasts about one hour. During a session, we will simply sit across from each other, discuss what you'd like to heal and then follow the protocol. There are no special instruments or tools needed. Phone sessions are also available.
What is the FACT pose?
The FACT pose is deceptively easy. It connects with all the main information-processing mechanisms of your mind, body and energy stystems. It also lightly touches several neurovascular holding points, which affect circulation. Holding the points on the forehead helps the blood to stay in your forebrain instead of the 'primitive centers' of the brain, therebye helping to pull you out of a stress response to stimuli. This allows quick and thorough processing of events, emotions and thoughts in a peaceful manner instead of perpetuating a stress response to the memory or activity which keeps the emotional and physical charge high and habitual. The main neurovascular points as well as the neurovascular points corresponding to anger are touched on the forehead. The points for panic and fear are covered on the back of the head. As stated in Donna Eden's "Energy Medicine":
"...holding the front neurovascular points returns blood to your forebrain and balances the circulation of blood throught your body. Holding your other hand behind your head sedates the fear points and calms your hypothalamus. It also creates an energy polarity between your hands while linking the energies throughout your brain. If you are in stress, this allows better communication between the front part of the brain as it is trying to figure things out and the back part as it is mobilizing for the fight-or-flight response. Your body relaxes and your habit field resoftens its grip."
The front hand also covers the eyes and the third eye, allowing you to get in touch with all the ways you view yourself and your world. The pose, in totality, grants access to your conscious and subconscious minds as well as major parts of your energy to help heal mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually.
Most people experience relaxation and deep calm while in the pose, with a lessening of intense emotions and thoughts.
To do the FACT Pose, hold one hand with the palm resting on the middle, back of your head, above the ridge where your skull meets your spine. At the same time, place your other hand over your eyes and forehead with the palm against your head so that your palm and fingers cover your eyebrow/temple ridges as well as your eyes and the majority of the lower half of your forehead. You should not apply any pressure at all. Hold both hands very gently. It doesn’t matter which hand goes where and you may switch, rest, lie down or prop up your hands at any time.
What are the steps of FACT and how do they work?
The Steps
For each step, hold the pose and put your attention on the statement/action for about one minute or until you feel done. (It is recommended you should not be in any step for more than 4 or 5 minutes. You should not get emotionally involved with the problem, just let your mind wander over the event/s or situation. This is an energy/mind/body integration technique that works much better if one can stay focused on the thought of it more than the emotion of it. However, if you find yourself getting very emotional, just stay in the pose and breathe deep. Donna Eden suggests that it is OK to feel these emotions until you begin to feel a lessening of stress around the situation as the blood returns to your forebrain. I find it works better if you can just bring the situation to mind and then continue to the next step. If you find yourself becoming too emotionally involved, simply move on to the next step and finish all the other steps. After completeing a full round, you will notice less emotional charge around the initial problem.)
Step One: I accept that _____ happened. I accept myself and I accept healing in all ways. (First, you are focusing on the actual problem, allowing your conscious and subconscious to engage with the issue. You are also placing it in the past, even if it was only a second ago, it's in the past now. A new way of being can begin this instant. I have found that acceptance of a problem is absolutely necessary before healing can take place. Whether we like it or not, the problem happened. By accepting it, we let go of a lot of the energy around it we've been using to keep it away or not acknowledge it's existence. Once acknowledged and accepted, much of the charge around it diffuses, energy can then reach the problem and healing can begin. For example, if you want to lose weight but hate your body, a great deal of energy is tied up in not wanting to even think about or believe you look the way you do. You keep that fact pushed away and out of reach of acceptance, love and healing. Once you accept it, you bring all of yourself into touch with your available energy and the problem can now be reached and, therefore, healed. The second part of the statement is extremely important. Acceptance of SELF is a vital step for healing. Not only must one accept that the problem happened, one must also accept oneself. Again, not accepting yourself holds you outside the realm of available healing energy. You are pushing a part of yourself away from yourself. This 'split' leads to split energy and lack of wholeness. By accepting yourself and allowing yourself to love yourself, no matter the situation, you open the door to vast amounts of healing energy from within and outside of yourself. If you can not 'believe' this statement, that is ok. Just let the idea be in your mind. Say the statement and let yourself at least experience the possibility. Repeat it a few times and then move on to the next step. Acknowledging an acceptance of all healing helps release resistance or preconceived notions of how healing should take place.)
Step Two: I choose for all the origins of this from all times and places to heal now. (You are letting your mind and energy know your intentions and where attention goes, energy goes. You affect your life, body, mind and spirit, and this puts you back into control of your life. You do not need to know all the origins of the problem. It is very likely that many origins are from very early childhood or before. Some origins may be from outside of yourself. Therefore, you don't need to think of or know the actual origins, just state the intent to heal them and your mind and energy will take care of the rest.)
Step Three: I choose for all the parts of myself involved with this from all times and places to heal now. (This step directly addresses your subconscious mind. Your subconscious is a data feedback loop that is full of learned or perceived beliefs that are oftentimes false. It simply takes in information-colored by ours and others' viewpoints-and considers them truth. This information can be implanted when we are infants and we may not even be aware of it. It becomes 'hard-wired' and difficult to consciously get rid of. Such beliefs we may have heard or seen and the subconscious adopted as truth can be "I'm not good enough." "I'll never get better." "The world is dangerous." "I'm fat and ugly." "I never should have been born." "All men are untrustworthy." "They left because I was bad." "I'll never have enough money." "I don't deserve for such good things to happen to me." etc etc. As you can see, these and many other false ideas may have been picked up along the road of life and the subconscious is NOT a filter. It simply accepts thoughts, actions, perceptions as DATA that is then programmed as TRUTH. Because of this, it can set up all sorts of defense mechanisms or habits that it thinks are necessary. If all men are untrustworthy, it sends out the message and parts of ourselves may begin acting out on this information, seemingly out of our control. If it's a "fact" (as far as your subconscious is concerned) that your are fat and ugly, it defends this fact by keeping it in place and behaviors follow, no matter how hard we try to CONSCIOUSLY change them. The subconscious sees these behaviors as defending your truths and protecting your way of life and is unable to differentiate 'reality' from perceived beliefs or learned behaviors. So, this step is not about these behaviors being consciously controlled by you. It is about letting the parts involved-mostly under the control of the subconscious-heal and let go. It's about aknowledging that they were just doing their perceived job of enforcing 'your truth' , but now a new way of perceiving events and the self is healthier and desired now.)
Step Four: I choose to chave heal and release all the emotions connected to this (including all anger, judgement, criticism, blame, shame, guilt, resentment, worry, fear and un-forgiveness toward myself, others and the Universe.) (This may seem a big job. However, you do not need to know which emotions are involved, how to process them or how to access them. Simply state the intent and your subconscious will take in this information as fact and do as instructed. Our subconscious can be a powerful ally when we interact with it directly and state our intentions. The subconscious can clear these emotions efficiently as it is so directly involved in all aspects of ourselves, especially emotionally. Also, forgiveness is important in any healing. Even if you don't whole-heartedly forgive, making the intention and saying the statement can very often clear the charge around the situation or event. Forgiveness does not condone the situation or event. It simply releases the attachments unforgiveness and anger cause, therebye releasing you from further attachment to the situation.)
Step Five: I choose to let go of all the obstacles preventing this from healing now. (You do not need to know what the obstacles are. This is the final step of clearing the issue. )
Step Six: I choose...whatever the positive outcome you desire is. When finished doing this step, see a figure eight/infinity sign sink into your mind. (Now that the intial energy is cleared, you can program a better, more consciously chosen desire. Let yourself really get involved with all of your senses to deeply imbed that which you intend. It can be an affirmation or a picture or both. The figure-eight integrates the left and right hemispheres of your brain. As energy is moving from the front and back parts of your brain because of the energy in your hands, this helps to also fully integrate the hemispheres of your brain, allowing the information to reach all parts of your mind. If you have held your other hand over your heart, you may still envision the infinity sign.)
After a full round, review the problem. If another troubling aspect surfaced, or if there is some lingering aspects of the original problem do another round.

Our mind and thoughts are powerful creators. FACT helps us to really get in touch with what is going on in our minds and emotions. This allows us to redirect our energy to create that which we truly want, instead of being held hostage to recurring, negative beliefs, consciously or unconsciously.
